En Diciembre de 1531 en el cerro de Tepeyac, actualmente la Ciudad de México, un indígena llamado Juan Diego contemplo la aparición de la Madre de Dios. Con la vestimenta y las características de una indígena doncella y dirigiéndose a Juan Diego en su lenguaje nata, ella le indico que él le dijera al obispo que construyera un santuario en ese lugar. Como seña, ella dejo su rostro en su manto- la milagrosa imagen de Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe.
En las palabras del padre teólogo Virgil Elizondo, “su imagen y fascinante historia continúan atrayendo, consolando, sanado, fortaleciendo, inspirando e iluminando a las personas a través de toda América y mas allá.” El dice que ella es la más grande evangelizadora de la iglesia de de las Américas, y ella es la protectora y libertadora de los pobres, los oprimidos y los abandonados.
El Padre Carmelita Dave Innocenti O Carm, fundador de Casa María, le hizo saber muy claramente A Brian Flagg cuando recién llegó aquí, que la Virgen de Guadalupe es la protectora de este barrio. Ella vela sobre las personas que vienen a comer, y su imagen cubre a todas las personas que viene a comer y servir cada día.
Elsa Vaquero, una salvadoreña y Guadalupana de la parroquia de Santa Cruz y voluntaria en Casa María, nos dice que la Virgen de Guadalupe es la madre de Dios. Ella está muy contenta de haber podido participar en la procesión que la parroquia Santa Cruz realizo ayer en nuestro barrio, en celebración a la Virgen de Guadalupe. Elsa comento con mucho cariño que la procesión fue muy bella. “Ella es la madre de todo el mundo. Ella no ve colores, estatus legal, clase social, edades ni géneros.” Todos andamos muy protegidos porque somos hijos de ella, y ella intercede por todos nosotros.
Librada Alameda, nativa de Nogales Sonora, madre de Laura Alameda viven aquí en Casa María con su familia. Ella comparte los sentimientos de Elsa, al sentirse muy bendecida y protegida por la Virgen de Guadalupe. Ella incluso le ha hecho un altar a la Virgen en el patio de su casa. Librada le tiene mucha fe y le está muy agradecida por todas las bendiciones que ha recibido. Ella comenta que debemos recordar que hay que celebrar a la Virgen de todos los días, y no solo en este día, aunque es un día muy especial.

In December 1531 on the hill of Tepeyac in what is present-day Mexico City an Indian named Juan Diego beheld an apparition of the Mother of God. With the attire and features of an Indian maiden and addressing Juan Diego in his native tongue she instructed him to tell the bishop to build a shrine on that spot. As a sign she left her image on his cloak-the miraculous image of Our Lady of Guadalupe.
In the words of theologian Fr. Vigil Elizondo, “her image and fascinating story continue to attract, console, heal, strengthen, inspire, and illuminate people through the Americas and beyond.” He says that she is the great evangelizer of the church and of the Americas and is the protector and liberator of the poor, the downtrodden and the disenfranchised.
Father Dave Innocenti O. Carm, the founder of Casa Maria, made it very clear to Brian Flagg upon his arrival, that the Virgin of Guadalupe is the protector of this neighborhood. She looks over the people who come to eat, and her image covers everyone who comes to eat and serve every day.
Elsa Vaquero a native from El Salvador, a Guadalupana from Santa Cruz parish, and a volunteer of Casa Maria, tells us that the Virgin of Guadalupe is the mother of God. She is very happy for being able to participate in the procession that Santa Cruz parish held yesterday in our neighborhood to celebrate Our Lady of Guadalupe. Elsa very passionately commented that the procession was very beautiful. “She is the mother of everyone. She doesn’t see colors, legal status, social class, ages or gender.” We are all much protected because we are her children and she advocates for all of us.
Librada Alameda is a native of Nogales Sonora and mother of Laura Alameda who lives here in Casa Maria with her family. She shares Elsa’s feelings of being very blessed and protected by the Virgen of Guadalupe. She has built a small shrine to the Virgen on the front yard of her house. Librada is very faithful towards her, and she is very thankful for all the blessings she has received. She also says that we should remember to celebrate the Virgen every day and not only on this day, although it is a very special day.
