Last week I was once again proud to be a Catholic!
This is because our Bishop, Gerald Kicanis, spearheaded an effort that gathered more than 60 Southern Arizona religious leaders to express their opposition to recent presidential orders calling for the construction of a border wall and banning the admission of refugees.
He was actually providing leadership!
But neither he nor practically anyone else talks about why there are so many refugees, from Mexico and Latin America and from all over the world.
The world-wide refugee crisis didn’t just happen by chance or by magic…
It is rooted in U.S. government policies and actions that primarily benefit multinational corporations that have served the rich in this country at the expense of the poor and working classes for centuries. To understand the world today, one must know some history!
I found a most fascinating history lesson in an article in the February 2017 issue of In These Times, “The United States of Exxon: Why Rex Tillerson could be Americas most dangerous secretary of state” by Antonia Juhasz.
We need to realize that things like the invasion of Iraq de-stabilized the world and created refugees big time. Antonia Juhasz says that: “Prior to the March 2003 invasion, Iraq’s domestic oil industry was fully nationalized and closed to Western oil companies. Within six years, it was largely privatized and utterly dominated by foreign firms, including Exxon Mobil… For the next decade, former and current executives of Western oil companies, including Exxon Mobil, acted first as administrators of Iraq’s oil ministry and then as “advisers” to the Iraqi government.” This war was, “…of course disastrous not only for Iraqis, but for the entire region, contributing to the formation of the Islamic State, the Syrian War and today’s refugee crisis.”
ORGULLOSO DE SER CATÓLICO

La semana pasada una vez más me sentí orgulloso de ser Católico!
Esto es porque nuestro Obispo, Gerald Kicanis, hizo el esfuerzo de juntar más de 60 líderes religiosos del Sur de Arizona para que expresaran sus oposiciones sobre las recientes ordenes presidenciales acerca de la construcción de un muro fronterizo y la prohibición de admitir refugiados.
En realidad el estaba proporcionando liderazgo!
Pero ni el, ni nadie habla de el porque hay tantos refugiados de México, America Latina y de todas partes del mundo.
Esta crisis de refugiados a nivel mundial no paso de la noche a la mañana o por magia…
Está enraizada en las políticas y acciones del gobierno de los Estados Unidos que benefician principalmente a las corporaciones multinacionales que han servido a los ricos de este país a expensas de los pobres y de las clases trabajadoras durante siglos. Para entender el mundo de hoy, uno debe saber algo de historia!

Necesitamos darnos cuenta que cosas como la invasión de Irak desestabilizo al mundo y creo un gran numero de refugiados.
