The City Manager and City Council are hell-bent on raising bus fares.
To balance their budget they are taking money from even the Cops and Fire … so they want sacrifices from Transit too.
But raising fares is not the way to do it because studies show that fare increases decrease ridership, meaning less revenue for the transit system.
The City Manager has said he needs $1.7 million from Transit.
The Bus Rider Union has agreed to almost $2 million worth of potential cuts without raising fares, but the politicos and bureaucrats are insisting that bus riders be punished with fare increases.
We have until the August 9 Council meeting to convince four votes on the Council to not raise fares.
So its time for action, even guerilla actions, with an emphasis on CREATIVITY!
For example, one very smart and creative man we know whom we refer to as Che Guevara, suggested we establish a shrine “To the Drunk College Student,” and use it to illustrate how the City’s Incentive programs are based on a Trickle Down Economic philosophy that provides incentives to gentrifying downtown developers and large corporations but provides no incentives for more low income and working people to get on the bus.

El Manejador de la Ciudad y el Consejo están empeñados en aumentar las tarifas.
Para balancear el presupuesto están quitando dinero hasta de los policías y los bomberos… así que también quieren sacrificios del transporte.
Aumentar las tarifas no es la manera de hacerlo porque los estudios enseñan que aumentando las tarifas los pasajeros disminuyen, que quiere decir menos ingresos para el sistema de tránsito.
El Manejador de la Ciudad dijo que necesitaba $1.7 millones del tránsito.
La Unión de los Pasajeros del Camión acordó casi $2 millones de recortes sin aumentar las tarifas, pero los políticos y los burocráticos están insistiendo en que los pasajeros sean castigados con el aumento de las tarifas.
Tenemos hasta Agosto 9 (Junta del Consejo) para convencer a 4 votantes del Consejo para que no aumenten las tarifas.
¡Así que es tiempo de acción, incluso una acción de guerrilla, con énfasis en la CREATIVIDAD!
Por ejemplo, un hombre inteligente y creativo que conocemos, nos referimos a Che Guevara, sugirió que estableciéramos un santuario “Para los Estudiantes del Colegio Borrachos,” y usarlo para demostrar como los incentivos del programa de la Ciudad son basados en Escurrir la Economía, filosofía que provee incentivos para los desarrolladores del downtown y las corporaciones grandes, pero no para la clase trabajadora o de bajos recursos para que usen el camión.
