< 1 min readby Brian Flagg, Thanks to Councilman Kozachik, Darren DaRonco and The Daily Star for telling the truth and giving some perspective on what have been budget priorities for the City of Tucson. (Top police, fire officials cash in on sick leave, Sunday April 6, 2014) This story was about how the City spent nearly $5 million buying back unused sick days from some of the highest paid police officers and firefighters the past two years – and spent another $2 million in what the city attorney now says were illegal pension contributions for those un-worked days. If you missed the

Remembering Archbishop Oscar A. Romero

2 min readby Anita Timpani Bubany “Let my blood be a seed of freedom.” -Romero Monday, March 24th marks the 34th Anniversary of the death of Archbishop Oscar A. Romero. I Heard You Followed em’ with a Bullhorn,

2 min readby John Miles, Brian, Cesar and Jimmy So yesterday there was a meeting about the development of the Ronstadt Transit Center. It was billed as “Pre Proposal Conference and Site Visit.” Our understanding was that it was a public meeting for developers to ask questions of the city bureaucrats. For this reason the Bus Riders Union showed up with our 45 organized members in our yellow shirts, to great developers with banners, signs, screaming kids, bus riders in need of translation, etc., etc. After that came the site visit. Where the architects and bureaucrats were accompanied by the bus riders

We joked with each other and then Ruben Reyes came and attached a microphone to him and sent him inside to address a packed house. Looking back, I wished I would have used those minutes to tell him how appreciative I am of him for never selling out poor people the whole time he was a local politician, even at times when it was uncomfortable for
